Odoo or Retail Scan & Stock: Count-based replenishment or ERP

Odoo already offers min/max replenishment within a broader ERP. RSS focuses on turning selected physical counts into reviewed supplier drafts. Compare stock meaning and configuration effort.

Start with the job

Odoo links Inventory, Purchase and other business apps. It may suit purchasing coordinated with sales and warehouse operations.

RSS focuses on physical products, parts and supplies: scan, count, prepare orders, record receiving or write-offs, and export Excel or CSV. It also has a web cabinet. It is not a POS or full ERP.

Understand the free offer

Community is open source; Enterprise is licensed. Odoo Online's One App Free includes one app and required dependencies. Verify the apps, hosting and terms for your inventory-and-purchasing combination.

RSS Free includes local offline min/max, Excel setup, multiple-count selection, calculation, order creation and export within 1,000 products, 1 supplier, 5 open documents and 1 device. Multiple suppliers require an appropriate paid allowance.

Count where the stock is

Odoo distinguishes On Hand from Forecast, incorporating incoming and outgoing operations. Compare its projected availability with RSS's dated count using the same item, unit and date.

RSS shows the last completed count with its date. Receiving or write-offs do not silently turn that snapshot into a live sales balance. Test your actual catalog, including a barcode with leading zeros.

Turn a shortage into an order

Odoo documents min/max, multiples and requests for quotation (RFQs) with automatic or manual replenishment. Check routes, vendors and timing before comparing documents.

RSS uses selected completed counts. At S ≤ Min, it suggests Max − S, rounding up only for an additional order multiple. P=1 preserves fractional needs. Review separate drafts for assigned suppliers; open orders warn without automatic deduction.

Test before switching

Test a tracked product with an incoming purchase, outgoing commitment and partial receipt. Compare dates and replenishment. Validate sample exports, units and field mapping; assume neither direct migration nor an RSS integration.

RSS defaults to the latest selected counted line per product; sum only explicitly separate stock portions. Before completing or exporting min/max orders, teams must sync and check conflicts. RSS does not forecast demand, choose the cheapest supplier or send orders automatically.

Which workflow fits?

Retail Scan & StockRSS may fit a small business needing phone counts, reviewed replenishment and spreadsheet sharing alongside its existing sales system.

OdooOdoo may fit if purchasing must work with sales, warehouse movements or other ERP applications and you can configure and maintain that wider process.

Questions before choosing

Does Odoo already have min/max?

Yes. Official documentation describes minimums, maximums, multiples and replenishment. The policies differ in source stock and configuration.

Is all Odoo inventory and purchasing free?

No blanket claim is valid. Check Community, Enterprise, One App Free dependencies and the apps and hosting you need.

Can RSS replace a full Odoo ERP?

No. RSS focuses on physical stock work. A connected ERP may fit better when several business processes must share transactions.
